Last week in the Best of BubbleLife survey, we asked our readers where they get fit. Voters showed they think outside the gym; they exercise by taking aquatics classes, practicing karate, doing yoga or Pilates and even hitting the ballet barre.

Here is a list of some unconventional workouts, all located in Dallas-Fort Worth, that appeal to everyone — even those who hate the gym.

Rhythms & Fitness in Allen

A locally owned, private studio, Rhythms & Fitness offers classes that don’t feel like a workout. Members can take classes ranging from Zumba to boxing, all designed for optimal results. The studio also provides personal nutrition and fitness training to help people reshape their bodies and minds. Director Teresa Gleason, who is passionate about unconventional fitness and nutrition training, enjoys “watching people get a thrill out of improving their health & fitness levels.”

Positively Fit in Lake Highlands

This facility includes a gym, but offers members much more. Its group fitness classes include Ladies Social Hour Boot Camp three days a week and an eight-week program called Tabata BootCamp. This small group training provides live workouts, nutritional guidance, fitness assessments and six-minute “homework” videos. Positively Fit separates itself from the traditional gym environment by providing approachable instructors and a friendly atmosphere.

The Bar Method in the Park Cities

This is the ideal workout for those who covet a ballerina’s body. (Which is everyone) The Bar Method Founder/CEO Burr Leonard used the Lotte Berk Method to create a workout that is safe, therapeutic and effective. Now, owner Lisa Hennings, a former professional dancer and certified yoga instructor, helps others reshape their bodies to build lean, firm muscles. This workout fuses physical therapy, isometric exercise and dance to target all muscle groups.

Core Fitness & Pilates in Southlake

Here, exercise is far from boring. This small boutique offers Pilates, yoga, barre workouts and burlesque classes. If you sign up for a burlesque class, be sure to bring heels, a large button down shirt, a hat and a camera to document your experience. You can also take a pole dance workshop or sign up for a private pole dance party. Core Fitness & Pilates believes pole dancing for fitness leaves participants “feeling exhilarated and empowered.”
