The Salvation Army Presents Highest National Civic Award to Mayor David Cook
Mansfield Mayor honored for dedicated leadership by region’s largest social services provider
Arlington, Texas (July 24, 2020) – The Salvation Army of North Texas’ Arlington Corps recognized Mansfield Mayor David Cook for his decade-long charitable support and community service work with the organization by presenting him with the prestigious Salvation Army “Others” Award in June 2020.
The “Others” Award is The Salvation Army’s most prestigious civic award, and it must be approved by The Salvation Army’s National Headquarters. The award is presented to the most deserving supporters who have shown exemplary dedication to serving “others” before themselves, not only through their work associated with The Salvation Army but also through works serving their community at large.
“The Salvation Army is so grateful for the continued support and generosity from Mayor Cook to help us serve vulnerable individuals and families combating poverty, homelessness and addiction every day,” said Lieutenant Konstanin Maslenikov, corps officer of The Salvation Army of Arlington. “It is a privilege to honor him as we pray that his example of dedicated service inspires others to also get involved and give.”
Over the past decade, Mayor Cook has supported The Salvation Army by volunteering his time to help raise awareness of the organization’s services and essential funding for its programs. Annually, he has participated in the Mayoral Red Kettle Challenge, where North Texas mayors face off in friendly competition to raise money for The Salvation Army during the holiday season. In 2019, Mayor Cook was the recipient of the Mayoral Red Kettle Challenge’s “Golden Kettle” award for raising the most funds for eight consecutive years. He also received the “Overall Most Funds Raised” award for his combined fundraising efforts since the Mayoral Challenge began in 2009. In 2019, Mayor Cook beat his record by raising a remarkable $100,165.11 in the City of Mansfield, and in the last decade, Cook has raised $452,542.61 for the Arlington-Mansfield Area Salvation Army.
“My life’s mission is to serve others and spread the love of Christ,” said Mayor David Cook. “The Salvation Army shares that same goal, and they are continuously finding new ways to reach those in need, which is why I am so honored to support and minister alongside The Salvation Army.”
Thanks to the generous support of public and community partners, The Salvation Army is continuing to elevate services to help individuals and families impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Since the beginning of the pandemic, The Salvation Army Arlington Corps has fed over 9,000 people, housed nearly 3,200 people, provided over 4,500 educational kits to children in need and served those facing economic hardships.
